Interlinear Translation: “But for
me may it not be to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; through
whom to me the world has been crucified, and I to the world.”
King James Translation: “But God
forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom
the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the World.”
Strong’s Concordance Translation:
“BUT GOD FORBID = to estop, i.e. prevent by word or act, hinder, keep from,
let, not suffer, withstand. THAT I SHOULD GLORY = boast, to vaunt in a bad way,
make boast, joy, rejoice. SAVE = if not, more than, saving, till. IN THE CROSS
OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST = a stake or post as set upright, i.e. specially a
pole or cross as an instrument of capital punishment, figuratively exposure to
death, i.e. self-denial, the atonement of Christ. BY WHOM = who, which, what
that, what, which. THE WORLD = orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration,
inhabitants, adorning. IS CRUCIFIED = impale on the cross, figuratively to
extinguish or subdue passion or selfishness. UNTO ME = to or into indicating
the point reached or entered or place, time, purpose or result, against, among,
before, concerning. AND I UNTO = THE WORLD = orderly arrangement, i.e.
decoration, inhabitants, adorning.
